Paul Desiderio responds to Agatha Uvero's allegations

By Ron Lim

Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player Paul Desiderio has responded to the domestic abuse allegations made against him by former University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) courtside reporter Agatha Uvero.

In a post on his Facebook account, Paul said that he and Agatha have been together since 2017 and separated in May of this year. They share a son named Andres.

Paul described Agatha's “social media allegation” as “unfortunate and sad, and most of all, untrue.” He shared that he had hoped that he and Agatha would have a civil relationship after their separation but that was not the case.

He then went on to “vehemently deny” Agatha's allegations, saying that he has had previous relationships before as well as a daughter and that he had never hurt a woman, especially the mother of his child.

Paul also said that he is ready to cooperate with the investigation of the PBA and that he is “confident” he will be proven innocent. He also said he will face the complaints against him “in any forum” and would also “seek redress for these defamations.”

He then went on to apologize to his family, friends, teammates, and his children.

In a Twitter post that quickly went viral yesterday, Agatha detailed the different ways that Paul was allegedly violent towards her, even while she was two months pregnant with his child. She alleged that Paul strangled, bit, kicked, and threw her against furniture.

The Twitter thread also had a screenshot of a Facebook Messenger conversation where two people are telling each other to consult a psychiatrist. One of the people in the conversation claimed “pag nalasing ako baka may magawa pako sayo” along with a “promise” that they are not “okay.”

Despite her aversion to “airing dirty laundry on social media,” Agatha wrote that she thought of all the girls in her place and called on men to be held accountable for their actions.
