Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental Gabrielle Basiano reveals national costume
Hours before the Miss Intercontinental coronation night, Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental Gabrielle Basiano revealed her national costume for the competition.
In two posts on her Instagram account, Gabrielle revealed that her costume was inspired by the Ibong Adarna of Philippine folklore. Dubbed “LUNAS/CURE,” the outfit is meant to symbolize Gabrielle's determination to get that back-to-back crown as well as a reference to the Ibong Adarna's ability to turn people into stone.
Gabrielle had recently posted about her participation in the Miss Intercontinental swimsuit competition, where she also asked for Filipinos and her Instagram followers to lend her their support and prayers in the final stretch of the competition, and thanked those who have supported her journey so far.
The coronation night tomorrow will be the culmination of Gabrielle's Egypt trip, where she arrived wearing an outfit meant to reference Cleopatra, the last queen of Egypt. In the caption to the post, she wrote that Cleopatra was known to wear two pearl earrings and that the outfit was a tribute to “one of this country's greatest ruler.”
In Gabrielle's first week in Egypt, we saw her interact with the rest of the Miss Intercontinental queens, attend the pageant's themed parties, and visit the Sharm El Sheikh museum.
Gabrielle winning the Miss Intercontinental crown this year would mean a back-to-back win for the country, as Cinderella “Cindy” Faye Obeñita won it in 2021. This would also make Gabrielle the third Miss Intercontinental winner from the country, after Cindy and Karen Gallman of Bohol, who won it in 2018.
Aside from Miss Intercontinental, other Filipina beauty queens are participating in other international pageants. Binibining Pilipinas Globe Chelsea Fernandez will compete in the Miss Globe pageant in Albania on October 15, hoping to succeed current reigning Miss Globe Maureen Montagne. She recently won the pageant's head-to-head competition.
Meanwhile, Binibining Pilipinas Grand International Roberta Tamondong will compete for the Miss Grand International crown on October 25.
