Binibining Pilipinas organization withdraws from Miss Grand International

By Ron Lim

Pageant fans and followers were greeted with a surprise as the Binibining Pilipinas organization posted an announcement on its social media accounts announcing their withdrawal from Miss Grand International.

In a post on its official Facebook page, the Binibining Pilipinas organization said that they are officially withdrawing from Miss Grand International and would not be renewing its franchise. The organization then thanked the organizers of the Miss Grand International pageant and wished them the best in their future endeavors.

The organization also renewed its commitment to “delighting” its followers and sponsors “through the production of world-class pageants.” The announcement also highlighted the 60-year history of the organization and its “stellar roster of international winners.”

Check out the full announcement below.

In the comments to the post, pageant fans lauded the decision, writing that it was “long overdue” and the “best decision ever.”

The past few years have seen the Filipina candidates in the Miss Grand International pageant unable to get the crown. Roberta Tamondong, the country's latest representative, initially finished in the Top 20 before being appointed as the new fifth runner-up by the organization.

The 2021 representative, Samantha Panlilio, failed to make it to the Top 20. The 2020 representative, Samantha Bernardo, finished first runner-up during the 2020 Miss Grand International.

The Binibining Pilipinas organization has other international pageants where they can send their pageant winners too. Herlene Budol is set to compete in the Miss Planet International pageant this month, with the coronation night set on November 19. The organization even called on pageant fans and followers to support Herlene's Miss Planet International bid with a supportive Instagram post.

Should Herlene win, she will be the country's first Miss Planet International and one of the country's pageant wins this year.

Other Binibining Pilipinas queens that competed this year include Gabrielle Basiano for Miss Intercontinental and Chelsea Fernandez for Miss Globe.
