Wilbert Tolentino reacts to alleged unauthorized appointment of Miss Planet PH

By Kristian Eric Javier

Talent manager Wilbert Tolentino is ready to take legal action against the people who appointed a new Philippine representative for the Miss Planet competition, which allegedly does not have his consent as the national director of the pageant in the country.

In a post on his Facebook page, Wilbert called out the “unauthorized persons” who have appointed a new representative for the competition.

“I hold the exclusive franchise in the Philippines and have the sole authority to appoint a representative for the Country,” he said.

He added, “I will be constrained to take legal action against any person representing to have authority to send a representative for the Philippines to Ms. Planet without my authority.”

In a separate Facebook post, Miss Planet International announced that Maria Luisa Varela will be representing the Philippines in the Miss Planet International competition to be held in Cambodia this January 29.

Maria Luisa's appointment was in response to Wilbert pulling out the original representative, actress Herlene Budol, from the competition after their "traumatic experience" in the earlier scheduled competition in Uganda.

On his post about the alleged unauthorized appointment of new PH candidate, Wilbert said that he made the statement to “protect the interest of the public, especially the women who may be misinformed” on who has the legal authority to send representatives for the Philippines in such competitions.

Meanwhile, Herlene, the reigning Miss Planet Philippines, thanked Wilbert “for the love & support” he has given her all throughout her career.

As of writing, there's no response yet from Miss Planet International organizers or Maria Luiza Varela about this issue.
