Luis Hontiveros says he doesn't want to be branded as 'sexy star'

Sparkle artist Luis Hontiveros may have portrayed one of the lead roles in a daring and sexy film before but the actor clarified that he does not want to focus on those kinds of roles for now, adding that he does not want to be branded in that category.

“Right now po I would say na hindi po muna 'yan ang magiging focus ko sa career ko 'cause I don't want to be branded na bilang sa ganoong kategorya lang po ng mga pelikula,” Luis said in a mediacon for several Sparkle Artists on February 16.

“I think I have more to prove as an actor and nagawa ko na rin naman po 'yung side na 'yun so I wanna do more heavy roles in terms of drama and more challenging roles sa action,” he said, adding that he would love to do a comedy.

The actor said, however, that he has not closed off any sexy roles that may be offered to him but that there would be limits, and that it will not be at the same level as he did before.

In 2021, Luis starred in a sexy and daring film directed by Brilliante Mendoza. He also stars in the movie Without You with David Licauco and Shaira Diaz, playing gay best friend of the actress.

Asked if he will still decline a role in a dramatic series that requires frontal nudity, he answered, “Hindi naman po siguro. Depende po sa materyal e. Pero I think medyo kwestyonable lang sa 'kin yung pagka-frontal nudity.”

He added that he would understand if the frontal nudity would make sense in the movie. “Pero if it's just for the sake of showing, I'm not after that kind of role anymore,” he explained.

“I don't think it would bring me any fulfillment or advancement sa aking karera,” he said.

When asked the same question as his co-stars about having an open relationship, Luis said that his decision will still depend on his partner or partners to be, adding that an open relationship is “very complex.”

“It's really a very complex and very complicated type of relationship which kailangan natin ng sobrang open mindedness and kailangan may mutual understanding talaga, setting of boundaries, just like any other normal relationship,” he added.

He clarified though that he has not experienced being in an open relationship and is currently in a long one.
