Wickermoss drops their single 'Buwan' on 'Spotlight Music Sessions'

By Kristian Eric Javier

The alternative rock band Wickermoss recently dropped an acoustic version of their original song, “Buwan” on Spotlight Music Sessions on Friday, March 24.

Their debut album "Fallen Leaves," which featured the song, was actually produced by AltG records, a sub-label of GMA Music, and for bassist Roger Alcantara, performing on the online music show felt like a homecoming.

“Actually parang homecoming 'to e, kasi our album was released by AltG (Records) yung album na iyon, so parang reunion namin with Sir Kedy (Sanchez), sina Ma'am Michelle,” he said.

Their song, "Buwan," is one of the band's love songs about wanting to be with the one they love.

The band is composed of Allen Lucas on Vocals and acoustic guitar, Roger Alcantara on bass, Karmi Santiago on drums, Rigil Borromeoon on lead guitars, and Reiman Gesmundo on guitars.

However, when the band started, there were different members then, and after they released the album in 2005, Roger said that there were a lot of leftover songs from the project.

He recalled, “Naisip ko, 'Buuin ko kaya?' Tapos minesage ko itong tatlong 'to, si Allen, si Karmi, si Rigil, ginawan ko lang ng groupchat, Wickermoss 2019.”

“Gulat sila, 'Ano 'to?' Tapos sabi ko, 'Sali kayo.' Pero nasa isip ko nun, kung isa sa kanila hindi pumayag, hindi ko na itutuloy kasi sila talaga yung gusto ko makasama,” he added.

Reiman added that they were already friends at the time, even before reforming the band with its new members.

The story of their band name, however, is simple as according to Reiman, it was simply wordplay that they thought sounded cool.

“Naisip nung isang kasama namin dati so wala naman talaga siyang particular meaning. Wordplay lang siya,” he added.

For Roger though, he does not see the band as merely a band, but as family.

“Wala e kasi kami parang magtotropa lang kami e, it's really na as a band, hindi ko siya tinitingnan as a band, parang family na,” he said.

They also expressed their dream to be able to play more of their music, especially after the Pandemic.

“Yung mga panahon na you play in front of a webcam or a phone, now you get to play in front of people, you get to feed off their energy, it's really that being on the stage and playing music. Playing out music,” Roger said.

He added, “I think it's everybody's dream naman yun, for your music to be heard. Hindi naman kailangan wider audience.”

Allen also shared that she dreams of being able to share their music and “affect people,” with Karmi adding that they wanted to make a mark in OPM or Philippine Music.
