For Mav Gonzales, she said it was Jessica Soho, or Ma'am Jess as they fondly call her, that taught her to ignore hurtful criticisms online.

Mav narrated, “Sabi niya, 'Alam n'yo, 'wag na kayo magbasa ng comments online.' 'Yun talaga 'yung turo niya. Kasi I think si Ma'am Jess wala talaga siyang social media, e.

“And kung meron mang talagang constructive na makuha akong comments din naman online--'yung medyo masama lang pagkakasabi pero alam mong maganda naman 'yung intensyon niya--I try to respond to the person in a nice way also na 'Salamat po dito sa sinabi ninyo.' tapos I try to explain my side.

“I guess hindi lahat nakakapagsabi ng opinyon nila in a nice way. So, you know, you just try to thicken your skin dahil pumasok ka sa ganitong trabaho. Kailangan medyo makapal ang balat mo. 'Wag kang sensitive.”

Mav learned how to better handle criticisms online through Jessica Soho's advice

As for Mav's On Record co-host Oscar Oida, he learned how to be a go-getter reporter form Jessica Soho.

“And ako naman, parang 'yung passion should always be there. Alam mo tayong mamamahayag, we are here for that particular reason. We are passion driven. Kaya kahit gaano kahirap, ka-crazy, kadelikado, susuong tayo because we are driven by our passion.

He also stressed the importance of doing things with all your heart.

“And it's good, 'no, na kung ano mang trabaho ang ginagawa natin, nandoon 'yung puso natin.

Oscar emphasized the importance of doing your job with all of your heart

Mav also talked about how reporters have a lighter side to them too, which most people don't get to see.

That's why she's happy that they get to tap into this side of their personality for On Record.

“I think maraming reporters na hindi lang alam ng mga tao is kalog in real life, na. nakakatawang tao in real life.

“It's just that persona mo na kapag nagbabalita ka, kailangan seryoso ka, you look credible and medyo serious.

“Pero I think itong On Record, chance din siya for me and for Kuya Oscar na ipakita na meron ding other side to reporters.”

Oscar couldn't agree more with Mav and even joked about his serious face when reporting.

“It's a blessing nga sabi ko, kasi for the longest time, for 20 years, laging nakakunot 'yung noo ko.

He also said that his light feature stories on 24 Oras sort of served as his training or transition into hosting On Record.

“For the longest time nga, sabi ko nga mga siguro halos 14 (or) 15 years akong crime reporter noh, sobrang seryoso.

“Kasi alam mo 'yon, we have to manage din 'yung mga anxieties e noh. Feeling ko nakakatulong 'yung mga ganyang istorya.

“Ang ganda. Hindi sinasadya pero parang naging training ko sa transition na ito from very serious na mga balita, itong transition to bringing good vibes, inspiration, at the same time valuable information.”
