Cook up Spanish stew, cocido, with a practical Filipino twist. Get Kara David's recipe HERE:

Cocido is a Spanish stew that's pretty similar to the Filipino nilaga. It commonly uses ham as one of its ingredients. But in a recent episode of Pinas Sarap, host Kara David gave this dish a practical Filipino twist.

In the Philippines, people often flock to Quiapo during the holiday season to buy hams for Noche Buena. But the cured meat is not the only best-seller ham stores have.

The ham bone has also become quite a popular alternative ingredient for dishes since it's way cheaper at P50 each.

So, for Kara's cocido recipe with a Filipino twist, she used ham bone as the star ingredient instead of ham.

If you want to serve this hearty and tasty stew for the holidays, below are the ingredients and procedure on how to make Kara David's version of Madrid's cocido.

Ingredients:

Ham bone
Beef
Pork
Chicken chorizo
Carrots
Potatoes
Cabbage
Beef broth
Onions
Salt
Pepper

Procedure:

1. Boil the ham bone in water with beef broth, sliced onions, salt, and pepper.
2. Remove the scum or froth and let it boil for two to three hours.
3. Add the pork and chicken chorizo.
4. Add the carrots and potatoes.
5. Once the carrots and potatoes have softened, you can now add the cabbage.
6. Season with salt and fish sauce.
