Sen. Kiko Pangilinan shares preventive measures he took during his quarantine period.
Opposition Senator Kiko Pangilinan said on Thursday (March 26) that his 14-day quarantine went fine as he has not shown any flu-like symptoms during the period.
The senator was put into self-quarantine because he had been exposed to a 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) positive person and he completed his quarantine three days ago.
He skipped the Senate's special session held last March 23 and stayed at home to avoid the possibility of infecting others.
“It has been 2 days since my 14 day self-quarantine was completed. Thankfully, I have not shown any flu-like symptoms. No fever. No cold,” he said.
Sen. Kiko also noted that his wife, Megastar Sharon Cuneta, and their kids have shown no symptoms of the virus, too.
On Friday, Sen. Kiko shared with the public the regimen he took during his quarantine period. He said, it that was prescribed by former Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Dr. Jimmy Galvez Tan.
“He informed me that the tips below are both curative and preventive. I was not able to follow all the tips but did most of them to stay healthy,” he noted.
Here are the preventive measures Sen. Kiko took to prevent himself from contracting the contagious coronavirus disease.
- Frequent hand washing with bubbling soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds per wash
- The use of alcohol-based gel formulations (alcogels) which he said is better than plain liquid alcohol 70% ethyl alcohol
- Use of face mask in public places
- Sleep for 7 to 8 hours in total darkness
- Drink at least 12 to 15 glasses of water or liquids per day
- For senior citizens, after 6:00 pm just take sips of water or gargle to quench your thirst to avoid frequent urination while asleep
- Drink ginger, it is good protection for lungs and respiratory system
- Eat fresh fruits and vegetable and spices daily preferably every meal
- Take at least 500 mg of Vitamin C 3x a day or at best one gram (1,000 mg) of Vitamin C 3x a day.
- Eat any products with coconut content: Buko juice (coconut water), buko flesh, coconut milk (gata ng niyog), shredded coconut (kinudkud na niyog)
- Do virgin coconut oil pulling (VCO babad). Place one tablespoon of VCO in the mouth and keep it there for 15 minutes then spit it out in tissue or in the toilet bowl. No need to wash the mouth after.
- Apply lightly VCO liniment from head to toe at least once a day in the morning at best also in the evening
- Have a flu vaccine especially for senior citizens
- Stop smoking and avoid people who are smoking (second-hand smoke ).
- Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages
- Move and walk at least 30 minutes a day
- Be at peace with yourself. Stay calm. Do not panic
- Trust in the Lord God always
