Vernon

Vernon is paying homage to his pop-punk idols with new music.

SEVENTEEN's hippest rapper Vernon kicks off his solo debut with the official release of his mixtape “Black Eye” along with its moody music video and live band version on various streaming platforms.

“Black Eye” is a pop-punk song that's said to represent “rough and natural aspects” of Vernon. Its tough and rebellious lyrics are written from the perspective of a person weathering the storm and are said to be inspired by Vernon's friend.

In an interview, Vernon shared, “I worked on this song with my friend and we have a mutual friend. That mutual friend first inspired us. We tried to include the things that friend said when felt lonely in the actual lyrics. The title 'Black Eye' was actually that person's idea.”

“The pop-funk genre has a charm that deals with various emotions like anger, depression, loneliness, and such. This side of me, which has never been seen before, is captured in 'Black Eye,'” he further explains.

The accompanying music video also matched the overall wayward mood of the song with its flashy home video quality footage and Vernon's rebel-like activities. The rapper showed off his edgy and dark side as he pays homage to his favorite pop-funk artists.

Vernon reignited a few sparks from Carats who were also fans of the genre and artists such as Paramore, Avril Lavigne, Blink-182, Green Day, and more. Check out their reactions below.

Congratulations, Vernon!
