Ashley Bustos and Susan Roces

Ashley Bustos, the daughter of actress Sheryl Cruz, penned an open letter in honor of her late “Lola Inday” Susan Roces. Read it HERE:

Seasoned actress Sheryl Cruz's unica hija, Ashley Bustos, paid tribute to the late veteran actress Susan Roces, who passed away last May 20.

The former Prima Donnas Season 2 star shared an almost one-minute video on her Instagram account featuring her daughter's lengthy open letter for her Lola Inday.

A post shared by Sheryl Sonora Cruz (@officialsherylcruz)

Ashley's letter reads, “My dearest Lola Inday, I don't know how to start this off. My feelings are spilling out and I am overwhelmed. I've been thinking of ways to let my pain out. Turn all of these negatives into positives. Let's start with me. I'm disappointed and embarrassed in myself 6,000 miles away, only learning about tragic happenings through a phone screen knowing, once again, that I'll be missing another funeral, another send-off.”

She added, “I'm saddened, annoyed, and lost. The past years don't feel like enough to repay what you've done for me. Being distant with minimal contact, I chose to be a hermit. I focused on myself more than returning or even just being a good granddaughter. It hurts and cuts deeply because when I think of you, there's so much I can say.

“You were like an angel, akin to the lights of heaven. You gave and you gave because you understood you had the means and privilege to. Not a lot of people would know that. Many would probably remember you as a face on the TV screen, but they don't know you like I do.”

According to Ashley, when she had no one to rely on or take inspiration from, her Lola Inday stepped up.

She continued, “When the family was more like enemies, you stepped up. You opened your arms and became the warmth for me. I had always felt outcasted [sic] and eccentric until you made me finally feel what it was like to be favored."

Ashley then narrated that her grandmother encouraged her in her studies, work, and in other things. She went on, "You don't know it, but it is because of you that I choose to do what I do. Because of you that I have dreams, but I'd give them up. All of them up for a mere five minutes with you. Work a minimum wage job just to hear your voice again. I guess it truly was time.

“Maybe it was planned that I should not have been in that room with you. Because if I were, it would've felt like home and it would've been slipping from my finger once again and I'm going to miss your stories.”

Ashley then recalled her younger years when her Lola Inday would tell stories about a castle with doors that could bring a person to different countries.

She wrote, “I hope that someday, I would be able to be with you in that castle so that we could write our own happily ever after. You'll stay forever in my heart.”

Aside from Ashley, Sheryl also dedicated an emotional message in honor of the Queen of Philippine Movies.
