By Maine Aquino

"Ngayon medyo better na compared to I guess two or three months ago. Nandito ako para mag-aral. I'm doing my doctoral studies here in Wuhan. I started in 2018.

"Wuhan kasi is like a highly urbanized city. There are malls around. 'Yung buhay dito is very vibrant, rich in terms of historical sites. Maraming turista ang pumupunta dito. Ito yung bumubuhay sa Wuhan, industry, universities and then 'yung tourism niya."

"Well basically the announcement of the lockdown itself was that signal na this is something big."

"There was very little time if you really want to go out of Wuhan. I think it was January 22 around 10 p.m. when they announced that there will be a lockdown effective 23 at 8 a.m."

I thought this is just fine. But my idea of the lockdown is that it will not stretch for a long time."

"Ang problema namin is when the university decided to close... You cannot go out of the building and I learned it on the day that the building was already closed. I think that was more shocking than the actual lockdown of Wuhan because hindi na ako makakalabas.

"It's wintertime so malamig. 'Pag inuubo ako o kaya bumabahin, iniisip ko do I have it? Then, I observe myself. Actually when I asked my friends they also felt the same na parang if they start coughing or they start sneezing they become paranoid na may COVID na ba ako?"

"I volunteered so basically may interaction aside from yung interaction sa online. I think that is also necessary to keep my mental health. If they cook meals, they share it. If you have something, you share it to them. So parang mas nabuo yung community dahil doon sa pag-volunteer."

Ayon pa kay Jan, ngayon ay halos back to normal na ang Wuhan.

"Malls are open, public transport, subway and buses they have resumed. Basically, life here has gone back to almost normal."

"Here what they did is they try to eliminate doubts e. Everyone was tested, including me, I was tested to ensure that everyone in Wuhan will be COVID free."

"Staying in this building, this room, for 65 days without interaction, personal interaction from the outside world not knowing what will happen next; it's very hard. Buti nga hindi ako nabaliw e."

"You have your family, you just keep close contact with them. You have your friends. If you think you can no longer handle it, have someone to talk to. I think that's something helpful and it helped me a lot."
