Reasons to watch 'Bubble Gang' on a Sunday

By Aedrianne Acar

For close to three-decade, Bubble Gang played a huge part in the entertainment scene and pop culture in the Philippines.

The flagship Kapuso gag show first aired in November 1995 and has been the home and nurturing ground for some of the best comedians in the country like Rufa Mae Quinto, Antonio Aquitania, Boy 2 Quizon, and many more.

Beginning July 9, the award-winning comedy program will make a big move from its late Friday night airing to Sunday Primetime.

What's more, it will feature fresh content and new Kababols, while staying true to the comedy style that people know and love them for.

But before this exciting new phase, here are some reasons why watching Bubble Gang on Sunday Grande sa Gabi just got better.

1. Bubble Gang mastered the art of reinvention

Loyal fans and avid viewers of Bubble Gang will find the change of timeslot as a surprise, but for GMA Senior Vice President for Entertainment Group Lilybeth G. Rasonable this shows the Kapuso Network's commitment to our “bosses”- the viewers, that we are fulfilling our responsibility to offer something new to them.

She explained during the grand media conference last June 30, “To give it a new face, siyempre, kasi 'di ba habang tumatagal, you always have to reinvent yourself, especially for a program that has lasted this long. You always have to reinvent and give something new to your audience.”

“That's our responsibility to our audience and we are fulfilling that responsibility. So excited with what we can give na bago dito sa bagong Bubble Gang on a Sunday.”

2. Quality content

With the numerous awards and recognition that Bubble Gang received in its more than 27 years of existence, the viewers know that “content is king” for the men and women behind the show.

According to the gag show's director Frasco Mortiz, they are all working hard to make sure that the content they present to the audience will not only satisfy our loyal Kababols, but attract new viewers, too.

“Nung nag-taping kami for the first two episodes medyo kampante naman kami na 'yung mga ginawa naming material in a way bago sa mata ng mga tao.”

3. Michael V. is leading the way

Of course, Bubble Gang is still considered by many as a TV rating juggernaut because of the presence of multi-awarded ace comedian and content creator Michael V.

Expect more exciting gags, sketches, and of course, his signature song parodies that will keep both young and old, glued to their TV sets watching the Kapuso gag show on a Sunday night.

4. Make way for our new Kababols

Bannered by Direk Bitoy together with Paolo Contis, Chariz Solomon, Analyn Barro, Betong Sumaya, and Kokoy de Santos- Bubble Gang tapped new talents to further reinforce the show.

Adding color and fun to the Kapuso comedy program are Sparkle artists led by versatile actor EA Guzman, vlogger-comedian Buboy Villar, and Sparkada member Cheska Fausto.

These new additions will make our Sunday night viewing a lot more entertaining because each artist brings their own comedy style and skill that will entice audiences.

5. Live Studio audience

Getting the instant reaction of a live studio audience while doing their gag or sketch is something our Bubble Gang barkada sees as an advantage.

With their new timeslot, the team behind the show and even the cast members feel that a studio audience is a constant reminder to all of them that they should give their “A” game every time they shoot for the gag show.

Direk Frasco observed, “Iba 'yung energy na ibinibigay niya, even du'n sa mga artista. So mero'n siyang dagdag na energy du'n sa mga artista. Parang, they are on their toes palagi, siyempre, nahihiya sila magkamali. Parang mero'n silang gigil ng konti kapag ginagawa 'yung scene.”

Sunday night is chew time, mga Kababol! Watch Bubble Gang every 6 p.m. on Sunday Grande sa gabi.
