Concert Queen Pops Fernandez wants Centerstage to be a world-class singing talent competition yet a relaxed and fun one for the joining kids.

During the Centerstage media conference on Thursday, February 6, judge Pops was asked by media members about the tips and techniques a kiddie performer can use for his/her every performance.

Given that the newest singing talent competition is a tough one, Pops emphasized that she also wants it to be a beautiful and memorable journey for the kids.

She said, “Unang una, I've never joined a singing contest. Aicelle has joined so she would know better than me but if you were to ask me, I know it's tough.

“Iba kasi 'yung kumanta ka in front of a lot of people, pero iba rin 'yung kumanta ka in front of a lot of people and yet 'yun na nga. You're out there, there's a goal, there's a prize, and you have to win and there's only one winner.

“So I think mas gusto ko ma-encourage ang mga kids to really have fun on stage. They're very young. So this should serve as a beginning.

“Most of them probably also joined other contests pero sana sa Centerstage, mas mag-enjoy sila.”

The seasoned singer likewise said that it's important to set their goals on the prize and their dream of becoming the first-ever Centerstage grand champion.

“Yes, there's still a winner. Yes, there's still a prize. Yes, there's still a goal but you want them to be as relaxed as possible. We want them to also enjoy and make friends with the other children that they are competing with,” she said.

“They are children, let's not forget that. So sana 'yun 'yung ma-invite natin 'di ba? Competition siya, pero backstage, marami silang mami-meet, magiging kaibigan.

“At the same time, let's set foot on this stage and they're here on 'Centerstage', mag-enjoy sila. And they just show kung ano ba talaga 'yung style nila, character nila at talent,” she added.

Also joining Pops as judges are Kapuso vocal powerhouse and West End singer Aicelle Santos and renowned musical director Mel Villena.

Asia's Multimedia Star Alden Richards will be the “Kuya Host” of the show while Kapuso comedian Betong Sumaya will serve as the side stage host.

Centerstage will feature kids aged 12 and under who will try to outshine one another in order to take and defend their place on the center stage.

Centerstage will premiere on GMA Primetime on February 16.
