Descendants of the Sun (The Philippine Adaptation) set Twitter buzzing with excitement and kilig as the local adaptation of the hit Korean drama premiered on Monday, February 10.

Filipinos expressed their sentiments on Twitter about its most-awaited pilot episode, making it a top trending topic in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, international fans of the phenomenal K-drama also set their eyes on its Filipino version which landed on the top five in the worldwide trends, according to a press release by Twitter.

In line with this, the social network partnered with GMA to launch special emojis for the popular series which will be live until May 2020.

The emojis, characters of Cpt Lucas and Dr. Maxine, will be automatically added when any of these hashtags--#DOTSPh, #DescendantsOfTheSunPH, #LucasManalo, and #MaxineDelaCruz--are Tweeted.

"With entertainment being the key conversation driver in the Philippines and the fact that Twitter is home for K-culture conversation, we are excited to partner with GMA Network to launch special emojis for the popular series," said Carl Cheng, Twitter's Head of Entertainment and Partnerships in Southeast Asia & Greater China.

Among the talk points are the "commendable acting and refreshing chemistry" of Descendants of the Sun (The Philippine Adaptation)'s lead actors Dingdong Dantes (Cpt Lucas) and Jennylyn Mercado (Dr. Maxine), as well as the charming love team of the series' second lead Rocco Nacino (TSg Diego) and Jasmine Curtis-Smith (Cpt Moira).

It's inevitable to compare it to the original version of the hit Korean drama. However, the local adaptation earned positive remarks from the Filipinos because of its Pinoy flavor.
