RECIPE: Beef Gyudon ala Gabby Eigenmann

By Racquel Quieta

Japanese cuisine is well-loved in the Philippines. It has become so popular that several Japanese restaurants have popped up all over the country.

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing pandemic, not everyone is comfortable to eat out or order their favorite Japanese food from restaurants.

If you're one of those who are badly craving Japanese food such as beef yakiniku, pork tonkatsu, shrimp tempura, beef udon and gyudon, then you're in luck.

Kapuso actor Gabby Eigenmann recently shared an easy beef gyudon recipe that you can easily recreate at home.

Check out the ingredients and procedure below.

Ingredients:

  • white onions
  • sesame oil
  • beef
  • salt
  • pepper
  • soy sauce
  • 2 cubes of salted butter
  • water
  • dashi
  • mirin
  • rice wine vinegar
  • sugar

Procedure:

  1. Sauté white onions with sesame oil.
  2. Add the beef.
  3. Brown the beef.
  4. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Add two cubes of salted butter.
  6. Add water.
  7. Add soy sauce.
  8. Add dashi and mirin.
  9. Add the rice wine vinegar.
  10. Add sugar.
  11. Let it simmer for about 15 minutes.

Gabby said adding salted butter is optional, but he says it really adds flavor to the gyudon. You can also use sake.
