In his recent guesting on Mars Pa More, the hothlete shared tips and discussed the basics of volleyball, with the help of his former teammate in the Philippine men's national volleyball team, Jason Uy.

Below are some of John Vic's tips for volleyball newbies.

Dig

The dig or dig pass is vital for a successful defense in volleyball. This is done to keep the ball from hitting the floor. John Vic says that when doing the dig pass, you have to straighten your arms in front of you and bend your knees.

Setting

Setting the volleyball is basically a way of passing the ball to a hitter, so they can spike the ball over the net.

To do this, you have to raise your arms and make sure the volleyball is just right above your forehead. You will then form a triangle with your fingers, as you prepare to push the volleyball with your fingertips.

Spiking

Spiking is a volleyball technique that was first discovered by Filipinos. In fact, it was used to be called the 'Philippine Bomb.'

The basics of spiking are extending your arms, keeping them straight, and of course, keeping your eyes on the ball. John Vic' tips for beginners is to study and master how to best hit the ball so that it moves to your desired direction.

Service

There are three ways of serving a volleyball: the standing serve, the float serve, and the jump serve.

John Vic says that when you're serving or spiking the ball, you need to make sure that the palm of your hands is flat when it makes contact with the ball.
