'Playlist' feature: "Kahit 'di nila magustuhan, okay lang. Basta proud ako dyan" - Aicelle Santos on her music

The Kapuso singer-actress counts herself blessed to be able to share her music with others. Tomorrow, August 3, she takes the Playlist stage.

Although she has been a familiar face and voice since she joined Pinoy Pop Superstar in 2005, Aicelle Santos admits that she feels that she's still relatively new in the music industry.

“I consider myself still starting with the writing and producing of my own music. Nagsisimula pa lang din ako,” she said.

Through her experience in showbiz that spans over a decade, she is grateful to have learned many lessons that enriched her professionally and personally, and which have encouraged her to take risks in making and releasing her music.

“You have to believe in whatever you’re doing before someone believes you.'Yung frustration, dapat phase lang 'yan… You have to believe na maganda [yung ginagawa mo]… Siguro hindi naman dumaan 'yung frustration sa ‘kin na matindi. Short span of time lang 'yun tapos paniniwalaan ko lang 'yung sarili, minahal ko lang 'yung ginagawa ko,” she shared.

She also learned that as an artist, there will naturally be people who will disprove her work. Aicelle acknowledged this part of the business and carried on with the thought that what is more important is that she is pursuing her passion.

“Meron [akong mga work na] may gusto, merong walang [may gusto]. Okay lang. Ang sarap kasi to put out music that you’re proud of. Kahit ‘di nila magustuhan, okay lang. Basta proud ako dyan. Malaking bagay na 'yun sa ‘kin,” she added.

The Kapuso singer-actress counts herself blessed to be able to share her music with others. Tomorrow, August 3, she takes the Playlist stage to perform her self-composed song Liwanag and The Rich Man’s Daughter theme song Be With You.

Her journey as an artist is marked by her struggles that have greatly contributed to career milestones, songs she’s proud of and continuous pursuit for excellence in her field.

“The process itself [is something I treasure]. From the writing, to the arrangement, and you know, spending some amount… Ang dami mong natututunan eh when you learn to love what you’re doing and you fight for it. [In my case, I know] I’ll fight ‘til the end,” she concluded.
