'Voltes V: Legacy' flight suits cost P350,000 a piece
Voltes V: Legacy director Mark Reyes shared more interesting details about how expensive the program is in terms of costumes.
During the media conference of the upcoming live action series on Tuesday, April 18, the director revealed that aside from the leveled up special effects, the production also shelled out a big amount for the Voltes V team's flight suits which he likens to the value of a car.
"When it comes to the costume, you saw naman the flight suits, 'no, hindi 'yon tinipid," he pointed out.
To give the audience an idea of how much a flight suit costs a piece, Direk Mark said the production was ultra careful of the costumes particularly when shooting action scenes like the 'butterfly return'--a defense tactic of the Voltes V team while using a samurai where one tosses his/her opponent to the ground by pressing the latter's sword firmly between his/her palms.
The director went on, "With the flight suits, I have to tell this story. We are shooting the butterfly return and bagsak nang bagsak si Steve on the ground so I don't care 'cause it was called for 'cause when you see the anime he was really tossing and turning then I notice, gano'n nang gano'n [ayos nang ayos] si Ms. Darling [Torres], our executive producer.
"Sabi ko, 'What's your problem?' Sabi n'ya, Mmahal kasi 'yan, e. Direk, PhP 350,000 isa niyan.'"
He reiterated, "PhP350,000, it's a car. That's how much the flight suits cost.
Besides the costumes, the production also spared no expense in set design and other props.
The Camp Big Falcon, the Voltes V team headquarters, alone is as big as three to four basketball courts and constructed for about a year.
Voltes: Legacy airs beginning May 8 on GMA Telebabad.
