Why Martin Del Rosario's Prince Zardoz is the next villain you will grow to love

Kapuso actor and Voltes V: Legacy star Martin del Rosario will be playing the iconic antagonist in the mecha adaptation series, Prince Zardoz. He shares that the main difference between the original animated character and his live-action version is that “buo 'yung character ni Prince Zardoz dito.
“Hindi lang siya 'yung basta kontrabida na masama, maghahasik ng lagim. Dito, partly, maiintindihan mo lahat ng mga actions [niya],” Martin said in an interview on the KPRGAsks page.
He added, “Kasi si Prince Zardos parang insecure, parang seeking for accpetance, marami siyang hinanakit sa loob. So dito 'yung human version na mapapanood niyo sa Voltes V: Legacy, makikita niyo siyang more human, kumbaga, mas may emosyon, makikita mong mas buo 'yung character.”
Asked how he would describe the Boazanian Prince in one word, the Kapuso actor answered, “honorable.”
“Kasi para sa kanya, gagawin niya 'yung lahat, kahit mamatay siya, mag-buwis siya ng sarili niyang buhay, basta lang para sa honor ng kanyang lahi, ang Boazanian,” he explained.
He then teased fans about the future of Prince Zardoz in the live-action adaptation, “Abangan niyo to what extent niya ipaglalaban ang kanyang lahi dito sa Voltes V: Legacy.”
Martin was then asked about his audition for the role, to which he responded with “nakakakaba.”
“Kasi nasa isang room ka na ang daming nag audition for the role. Pinadalhan ako ng audition piece na isang buong page na malalalim 'yung Tagalog so nakaka-overwhelm, nakaka-kaba talaga,” he said.
He also revealed that not only did he audition for the role of Prince Zardoz, but he was also set to audition for the role of Mark Gordon, the second in command of the Voltes Team, a role which eventually went to Radson Flores.
“Pag dating ko dun sa loob ng audition room, ang sabi sa'kin ni Direk Mark (Reyes), supposedly kasi ang audition ko, for Zardoz and Mark, 'yun 'yung inaral ko. Sabi sa'kin ni Direk Mark, 'No, you do Zardos,'” he said.
He added, “Eventually, I did my best, nakuha ko 'yung role. Proud na proud ako sa sarili ko na maging part ng show na 'to para makuha 'yung iconic role na si Prince Zardos.”
In the original anime, Prince Zardoz is a ruthless killer and conqueror. While he has some detestable qualities, he is believed to be a great leader, who at certain points of the story, has shown care for his own people.
