The wealth of information easily accessible today by anyone with an internet connection can be life-changing, as you can know and learn just about anything you want to.

One of the best places to learn something new is YouTube, where you can watch millions of videos that cover every topic and interest imaginable.

Just ask Andrei Lloyd Sosa, an astonishing 13-year-old Filipino who managed to code his own video games by learning the Python programming language on YouTube. He astounded his family by emerging from his room with two fully functioning PC games, which he single-handedly coded in a few weeks.

Andrei Lloyd SosaBy watching YouTube tutorials on Python programming, 13-year-old Andrei Lloyd Sosa was able to code his own survival action games.

“My parents limited my playing time, so I just thought of creating my own games,” Andrei said. “I just started learning the basics of programming then moved to more complex projects.”

Andrei started his journey of making his own games by watching videos from the programming tutorial channel Clear Code. Clear Code has easy-to-follow tutorial videos that teach aspiring programmers how to code their own games in Python by imitating existing popular games, such as Super Mario, Minecraft, and The Legend of Zelda, to name a few. The tutorials are narrated simply and are able to explain and teach complex programming concepts in an easily understandable manner, allowing viewers to establish a solid foundation in coding.

“I thought of learning on YouTube because it's free and even better than some websites, because YouTube creators explain concepts better on video than just text,” he said.

The two unnamed games Andrei created are survival action games, in which the player controls a character taking on waves of fast-moving enemies trying to attack them. Using the keyboard and the mouse, the player must shoot in all directions to eliminate the incoming enemies and avoid dying.

Andrei's older brother Gen Sosa first discovered his newfound talent for coding his own video games. His family thought he was only watching the videos out of curiosity, without realizing he was already applying the programming concepts the videos were teaching.

“He was just watching coding videos on YouTube, and we thought his hobby was just watching these videos and playing games,” said Gen. “We were surprised to find out he had coded his own [games] in three weeks and that he already understood complex programming.”

Like Andrei, you too can start any hobby and learn any skill you want.
