Vilmark Viray honors late father in new song "Lisan"

Vilmark Viray is making a comeback, and this time it's inspired by a tragic loss.

After the sudden passing of his father, Virgilio Viray, back in December 2022, The Clash Season 4 finalist Vilmark recalled how songwriting was his main coping mechanism when dealing with grief.

"Nung pagkamatay ni Papa, wala akong ibang way para makapag-cope sa situation ang nakita ko lang na way is 'yung way is pagsusulat ng kanta. Doon ko na-release lahat ng nararamdaman ko that time."

His fond memories of his father inspired him to pen the song, which he composed in less than a day. Vilmark shared how close he was to his father, who supported his singing career through and through.

"Nasanay ako na laging kasama tatay ko, kapag narinig n'yo 'yung song, para lang siyang kinukwento ng relationship ko with my father, and how hard it was na biglaan kaming iwan ng tatay ko. I'm really excited na ma-release itong song na to not just for me but to honor my father, at kung paano niya ibinigay 'yung buhay niya for me and my family."

He continued, "Sobrang close ko kasi sa tatay ko, siya ang naghahatid sundo sa akin and ako ng tatay and 'yun din 'yung time namin para makapagkuwentuhan."

"Pag umaga nakahanda na 'yung almusal, minsan siya pa 'yung nagpapaalala ng mga schedule ko."

"Walang big or small na ginawa 'yung tatay ko na hindi ko makakalimutan, kasi every single thing na ginagawa niya for me, I'm really thankful. Alam ko how he dedicated himself for our family."

With this new song, Vilmark cherishes the memories he has of his father and hopes he is proudly watching from above.

"Nabaldado talaga ako nung time na 'yun kaya binuhos ko lahat ng sakit sa kantang ito."

"I'm hoping na maging proud siya sa song na ito."
