Indie pop rock band Hingalima channels emotions into music

More than just making music, indie pop-rock band Hingalima creates songs with meaning and purpose.

Composed of Star Balita (vocals), Yanna Figueroa (drums), Kat Pagtiilan (bass), and Joshua Ellorda and Ralph Ismael (guitars), Hingalima shared that the meaning behind their band's name is rooted in their advocacy for mental health.

"Parang connected siya with mental health, lahat kailangan huminga. Hingang limang beses tapos laban ulit," Star shared.

The emerging band admitted that writing songs serves as a form of self-expression, allowing them to channel their thoughts, feelings, and emotions. They added that songwriting also helps them cope with life's challenges.

As for their songwriting process, the members revealed that they collaborate by sharing ideas, melodies, and lyrics, which they develop together into a complete song since most of them are songwriters.

Hingalima also shared that their local musical influences include Rico Blanco, Zack Tabudlo, Ben&Ben, Apo Hiking Society, and Up Dharma Down. On the international scene, they draw inspiration from Michael Jackson, John Mayer, Taylor Swift, Paramore, and The 1975.

The indie pop-rock band debuted in 2024 with their single "Uuwi Sa'yo." They recently released "Slipping Away" on September 30, 2025.
