Man, 60, dies after bamboo trees fall on Benguet home amid Ulysses | NCAA Philippines

A 60-year-old man died after a clump of bamboo trees fell on his house in Benguet province amid the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses.

According to Benguet Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head Rosemarie Melecio, their initial information showed that the clump of bamboo trees fell on the house of the victim, partially damaging it.

It was still unclear, however, if the incident happened on Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

"Ang at hand na information is yung bahay nila natabunan partially ng clump of bamboo trees. Partially damaged yung bahay nila, mukhang naipit yung casualty," Melecio said.

The victim was also with his family at that time, although he was the only one who unfortunately died.

Benguet was placed under Signal No. 2 when Typhoon Ulysses came in contact with the Luzon landmass.

Melecio said though the province only experienced light to moderate rainfall overall and the damage was mainly on fallen trees along roads.

No areas were likewise isolated and no major landslides reported, she added.

The casualty in Benguet adds to the two reported deaths in Camarines Norte amid the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses. —JST, GMA News
