JRU comeback win a product of 'playing as a unit', says Coach Louie | NCAA Philippines

After a big comeback win over Lyceum of the Philippines University, Jose Rizal University head coach Louie Gonzalez said that it was a team effort that spelled the difference.

The Heavy Bombers trailed by nine points late in the fourth quarter but closed the contest on a 16-1 run, led by Marwin Dionisio, John Amores, and Ry Dela Rosa, that put them over the top.

JRU clinched their fifth in a row, 63-57, while also dealing the Pirates their first loss after a five-game winning streak.

"Actually hindi ko nga napansin na it was a 16-1 run eh, especially during the second half. Itong game kasi na 'to is a matter of my players playing as a unit and playing together," said Gonzalez.

"Hindi kami talaga magiging successful, hindi kami magco-compete kung magiging one-side player kami, we need to be two-side din."

Gonzalez credited his third year player Dionisio, who scored 11 points in the fourth quarter alone to finish with a game-high 15 points and 10 rebounds, for leading their rally down the stretch.

For Dionisio, it was a must-win game against Lyceum as they want to prove something this season, especially to the JRU community.

"Syempre 'pag natalo kami, ang laking ng ibababa ng standing namin so talagang pinilit namin kahit una gigil kami nung first half, kumbaga sinabi ko sa kanila na control-in lang natin 'yung laro, hindi 'yung sila 'yung magco-control sa laro kasi gusto namin manalo eh," the 23-year-old forward said.

"Yes, totoo yan lalo na sa JRU community. Para sa kanila 'to, sa family namin, sa mga coaches din namin na nagtitiwala sa amin."
