Benilde coach Charles Tiu on ending two-decade Final Four drought: 'It's about time' | NCAA Philippines

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde is back in the NCAA Final Four after a 20-year wait.

And head coach Charles Tiu is glad that the drought was quenched today.

"It feels great to be honest. It's one of the goals we had this season, especially that not a lot of people expected us to be in the Final Four," said Tiu.

"It's about time the school makes it to the Final Four."

The Blazers pulled off a gutsy 83-78 victory over San Sebastian College-Recoletos on Tuesday, formally sealing their spot in the semifinals alongside Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Lyceum of the Philippines University, and San Beda University.

The last time Benilde made it to the Final Four was in September 2002, when the Sunday Salvacion-led Benilde went up against then-member Philippine Christian University.

But the Taft crew isn't ready to settle for just a Final Four ticket as they are also eyeing the twice-to-beat playoff incentive in the hopes of returning to the championship round.

"I hope we can still go farther," Tiu added.

"Right now I'll be honest, we want to target the top two spots if we can get it. Alam naman natin 'yung advantage na 'yun."
