Osabel, Romero tow EAC past San Beda to remain undefeated | NCAA Philippines

Ervin Osabel and Marvin Romero again stood out as for Emilio Aguinaldo College as the Generals defeated San Beda University, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18, 25-21, on Saturday in the NCAA Season 99 men's volleyball tournament at the FIloil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

Osabel registered 20 points and 10 excellent digs, while Romero had 17 points and 17 rebounds as the Generals improved to 6-0.

Axel Van Book, meanwhile, paced the Red Spikers with 15 points as San Beda slipped to 3-3.

For head coach Rod Palmero, teamwork and translating what they do in training to the game is what makes EAC win.

"'Yun lang naman ang pinagagawa ko sa mga bata ngayon. We practice to secure the game. Siguro 'yun ang nagiging [gawa] namin para makita ang resulta," Palmero told GMA News Online.

(That's what I asked them to do. We practice to secure the game. Perhaps that's the reason why so we can see the results.)

Meanwhile, Osabel said the Generals will take it one game at a time as the conclusion of the season nears.

"Sa akin po, ang goal po namin ngayon is one at a time. 'Di naman namin minamadali ang games kasi ang last three games namin, medyo mabigat din 'yun kailangan din namin i-secure," the outside hitter said.

(For me, our goal is to take it one at a time. We're not rushing on it since our last three games are against strong teams. We need to secure those.)

Romero, on the other hand, said he and fellow seniors Bhim Diones and John Paglaon needed to step up as Josh Ramilo and Ralph Pitogo played out their years in EAC.

"Unexpected po kasi from last year, nawala po 'yung seniors namin which is si Ramilo and Pitogo and for us, tinake po namin 'yung pagkawala nila as challenge kasi we need to step up," said Romero, adding that they are dedicating their campaign to their late teammate Mark Justin Cabacang.

(It's unexpected because from last year, our seniors Ramilo and Pitogo graduated so we seniors took it as a challenge that we needed to step up.)

EAC will face San Sebastian College-Recoletos next on Tuesday, while San Beda will go against JRU on Wednesday.
