San Sebastian downs also-ran JRU for back-to-back wins | NCAA Philippines

San Sebastian College-Recoletos got its second straight win at the expense of also-ran Jose Rizal University, 23-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-19, on Saturday in the NCAA Season 99 women's volleyball tournament at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

The win came after the Lady Stags' victory against Emilio Aguinaldo College last Tuesday.

After overcoming a first set hiccup, the Lady Stags completed a comeback in the third set as it trailed 22-15, but a JRU service error and five straight points from the Roger Gorayeb-mentored squad put them within one before they took the set.

San Sebastian then built enough cushion early in the third set as it led 14-8, before eventually getting the win as the Lady Stags improved to 2-6 despite being already eliminated from playoff contention.

Kath Santos had 22 points, while Tina Marasigan's heroics particularly in the third set allowed her to have 18 points off 16 attacks and two aces.

The Lady Bombers, who are still missing the services of May Ruiz, relied on Karyla Jasareno's 18 points as they went down to 1-7.

San Sebastian will still face Colegio de San Juan de Letran on Wednesday, while JRU will wrap its campaign against Arellano University.
