EAC marches to Final Four after sweep of slumping San Sebastian

Emilio Aguinaldo College booked the second Final Four ticket in the NCAA Season 99 men's volleyball tournament following a 27-25, 25-18, 25-23 sweep of San Sebastian College-Recoletos on Tuesday at FilOil EcoOil Centre.

The Generals remained unblemished at 7-0, joining three-time defending champion University of Perpetual Help System DALTA as the first two semifinalists.

The Stags, on the other hand, fell to their third straight loss to stumble to sixth place with a 3-4 win-loss record.

Kenneth Batiancila, the leading blocker so far, completed a quick play that gave the Generals separation at 20-16 in the third set to cut San Sebastian's momentum. Prior to that, the Stags climbed back from a five-point deficit to pose a threat in the final frame.

Rhenmart Alba then connected on a quick play of his own to bring the Stags back to within two points, 20-18. But the Generals responded with a 4-1 rampage capped by a Paul Say crosscourt kill for the match point, 24-19.

However, San Sebastian countered with a 4-0 run of their own, 24-23, but an attack error from their side saw EAC cruising to the Final Four.

The lefty Jan Abor provided the spark with 18 points while Ervin Osabel was steady anew as he churned out 17 markers all on attacks.

Kyle Villamor and Cedric Lim were the bright spots for the Stags as they both tallied 13 points while Alba finished with eight.
