Leandro Muñoz proud of trans man son, encourages parents to give 100% support to children

Former actor Leandro Muñoz has shared how proud he is of his trans man son, Frankie, as he opened up about his son’s journey and struggles to become the man he is now.

“This is something I will never ever hide from the public nor anyone should hide from the public because this is a serious matter,” Leandro said on Paolo Contis’ online show “Just In” Wednesday.

Leandro, who is now based in the United States, shared that Frankie was first named Franchesca, but when he turned 16 years old, he came to his father crying.

“He was crying tapos sabi niya, ‘I need help. I am wrong. Maybe I need help from a psychiatrist.’ Sabi ko, ‘Why?’ Because attracted siya sa same sex ... ‘I feel like I’m a boy. I’m a man.’”

Leandro, showing how supportive and loving he was, told his son: “There’s nothing wrong with you.”

He then asked Frankie if that’s what made him happy, and his son answered yes.

“So my point here is kailangan i-support natin what makes our children happy,” Leandro said. “So ever since sinabi niya ’yun hindi na siya closet, hindi na siya nagtago. He came out. He’s a trans man. Now he goes by Frankie ... he’s very happy.”

Because of Frankie’s own experience, Leandro revealed that Frankie will be taking up psychology for the LGBT community.

“My message to everyone, kung may anak kayo na who’s trying to come out, give him 100% support,” said Leandro.

Host Paolo also shared his views. “Support your kids dahil ’yun yung pinaka magandang magagawa mo bilang magulang,” said the Kapuso actor.

Frankie is Leandro’s eldest child from a previous relationship. Now, Leandro resides in California with his wife Sheryl and their newborn son Mason. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
