DOTr to deploy transportation marshalls in train stations, terminals once ops resume

By DONA MAGSINO, GMA News

Marshalls who shall enforce social distancing and hygienic practices in train stations and terminals will be deployed once mass transportation resumes, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said Wednesday.

Further, Tugade said markers have already been placed inside train coaches, stations, as well as in ticketing and queueing areas.

Asked when mass transportation will reopen, the Cabinet official said the schedule will depend on the decision of the Inter-Agency Task Force handling the COVID-19 situation.

Transport services remain limited amid the pandemic, especially in areas under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), even as some establishments have already been allowed to resume operations.

Some construction workers and frontliners struggled to reach their workplace on Monday after Metro Manila was placed under the MECQ.

Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez urged owners of businesses that have been allowed to resume partial or full operations to provide shuttle services to their employees.

Absence in work should not be taken against the employees if they cannot come in because of lack of transport services, according to presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.—AOL, GMA News
