OFWs turn into beauty queens for ‘Resibo Challenge’

Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) seemingly turned into professional beauty queens as they took to the “runway” to show off their outfits made of receipts for the “#ResiboChallenge.”

According to Manal Sugadol’s report on “Stand for Truth” on Thursday, OFWs can join in on the trend by fashioning clothes out of the receipts of money remittances sent to their families in the Philippines.

Among those who took on the challenge is Mary Ann Adriano, who has been an OFW in Kuwait for eight years now.

“Para kakaiba ‘yung sa’kin gumawa ako ng gown… Isang bag po tinatabi ko po para nakikita ko kahit sa resibo man lang. Sobrang hirap po pero masarap naman kasi nakakatulong sa pamilya. Nabibili nila kung ano ang gusto nila,” she shared.

Marian Henarios, a former OFW of seven years and now an online seller in Iloilo, also participated in the online trend.

“Sa maglilimang taon kong bilang online seller marami po ako naging suki, mga customer, local man at international. ‘Yung resibo po na ‘yun ay nalikom ko sa loob ng limang taon at hindi ko itinapon,” she said.

Financial adviser Evangelina Pastor encouraged OFWs to keep their receipts.

“If you are able to keep all those proof or receipts na puwedeng patunay in the near future na magkaroon ng problema at kailangan i-trace back ang history ng isang bagay, ayan, hindi ka mahihirapan patunayan na ‘I paid for this, nagpadala ako ng ganitong halaga’ lalo na ngayon na every centavo counts,” she said.—Julia Mari Ornedo/LDF, GMA News
