7,174 new Philippine COVID-19 infections logged; total cases at 1,101,990

The Philippines on Sunday reported 7,174 new COVID-19 infections, raising the country's total tally to 1,101,990.

The Department of Health said all laboratories were able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

The DOH said the new cases brought the total active cases in the country to 61,294, of which, 93.8% were mild, 2.1% were asymptomatic, 1.7% were severe, and 1.3% were in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries also rose to 1,022,224 after 9,197 more patients recovered from the respiratory illness.

The death toll climbed to 18,472 with 204 new fatalities.

The DOH said 33 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 149 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Data from the DOH showed that 62% of the country’s intensive care unit beds were utilized, while 42% of the mechanical ventilators were in use. — DVM, GMA News
