UST cancels USTET again for academic year 2022-2023 due to pandemic

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila said it has canceled its college entrance test for the school year 2022-2023 to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission among applicants and employees.

On Facebook, UST's Office of Admissions (OFAD) said it will base its admission through applicants' academic records and performance.

"For the Academic Year 2022-2023, the University of Santo Tomas Entrance Test (USTET) will not be administered in consideration of the quarantine restrictions that are currently in effect in the country," read its statement.

"Instead, admission to UST for the AY 2022-2023 shall be through the University of Santo Tomas Admission Rating (USTAR). The USTAR is a score that will be computed from a number of parameters derived largely from the academic performance and record of the applicant," it added.

Deadline for applications was set on December 15, 2021, the UST OFAD said.

It also advised that passing the USTAR will not be the lone basis for admission in some colleges.

"Some Colleges may require additional entry assessment in the form of an interview, talent test (e.g. audition, drawing), or other similar activities," it said.

USTET was also canceled for the school year 2021 to 2022 because of the quarantine restrictions imposed in the country.

Aside from UST, Ateneo also announced that it would not push through with its admission test (Ateneo College Entrance Test or ACET) for the next academic year. —Consuelo Marquez/KG, GMA News
