La Trinidad trading post placed under 3-day lockdown

The La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post in Benguet has been placed under a three-day lockdown, GMA’s Jonathan Andal said in a report on Dobol B sa News TV Friday.

This was after a vegetable truck driver and his two assistants were tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The driver is from Tuba while the assistants are from La Trinidad.

The report quoted La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda as saying that the three delivered vegetables to Cubao in Quezon City, Plaridel in Bulacan, and La Trinidad and Tuba in Benguet.

Salda said the city government is now conducting contact tracing and disinfection.

In Executive Order No 39 series of 2020, the city mayor stated the lockdown started 12 noon of June 11 until 12 noon of June 14.

"This has only established that the LTVTP (La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post) is a 'tinder box of COVID-19' since it is beehive of activity where traders, disposers, drivers, and helpers meet in mass and come and go unhampered even from areas where there are positive cases of COVID-19," the order read.

Salda said to avoid similar incidents, they will strictly implement the “no touch down policy” where the drivers and assistants will not be allowed to go down the vehicle when they reached their destination.

The mayor said the drivers and assistants will also be required to keep a logbook where they will note their itinerary for easy contact tracing.

La Trinidad trading post is one of the major sources of vegetables in Cordillera.

Despite the lockdown, Salda said the supply of vegetables will not be affected as there are other trading posts where farmers and buyers can sell and get the goods.—AOL, GMA News
