30 COVID-19 vaccine vials damaged in Misamis Oriental fire —DOH exec

At least 30 vials of COVID-19 vaccine were damaged due to the fire that hit the Misamis Oriental Provincial Health Office, a Department of Health (DOH) regional official said on Thursday.

Interviewed on Super Radyo dzBB, DOH Region 10 director Dr. Jose Llacuna Jr. said the loss will not affect the rollout of the vaccination program in the province.

“Yung vaccine na mga damaged natin, 30 bottles or vials [We have 30 vials of vaccine that were damaged],” he said.

Llacuna said they will do their best to have a replacement for the lost vaccine.

Citing reports from the officers and personnel of the health office, Llacuna said there was no reported death and injury in the fire incident.

at the Misamis Provincial Health Office at the provincial capitol compound in Cagayan de Oro City.

Misamis Oriental Public Information Office said the fire hit the health office and its adjacent buildings.

According to the Cagayan De Oro Fire District, firefighters received a call about the blaze at 6:38 p.m. After 20 minutes, the fire reached the fourth alarm.

There were at least 19 fire trucks that responded to the emergency.

It was declared under control at 8:43 p.m. and was fully extinguished at 8:54 p.m., the fire department added.

The incident resulted in around P1.4 million worth of damage.

Llacuna said the operation of the office and its personnel were relocated to a training center near the area. —KBK, GMA News
