Bacoor logged record-high 444 new COVID-19 cases on Aug. 27 —OCTA fellow

Bacoor City in Cavite logged a new record-high 444 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, August 27, 2021, OCTA Research fellow Guido David said Saturday.

Citing data from the Department of Health, David ranked local government units with the highest number of new COVID-19 cases reported on August 27, with Quezon City at the top spot with 736 new infections.

“Bacoor with a new record high. Davao City with the [second] highest single-day record after its 479 cases on [June 17, 2021],” David said in a tweet.

The City of Manila has the second highest number of new COVID-19 cases reported on Friday with 539 infections. It was followed by Davao City with 464 cases, then Bacoor City.

Fifth in rank was Caloocan City with 414 cases, followed by Malabon City with 360 cases, Taguig City with 359 cases, Pasig City with 347 cases, Makati City with 324 cases, and Valenzuela City with 287 cases.

Completing the top 20 LGUs with the highest number of cases recorded on Friday were:

  • Parañaque City: 256 cases
  • Calamba City, Laguna: 236 cases
  • Santa Rosa, Laguna: 236 cases
  • Las Piñas City: 224 cases
  • Muntinlupa City: 224 cases
  • San Juan City 223 cases

  • Imus City, Cavite: 213 cases
  • Cebu City, Cebu Province: 202 cases
  • Pasay City: 184 cases
  • Dasmariñas City, Cavite: 179 cases

On Saturday morning, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque announced that Metro Manila and 15 other areas will remain under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ)  status — the second most stringent lockdown classification in the country.

On Friday, the Philippines reported 17,447 new infections, bringing the total COVID-19 tally to 1,916,461.

This is the second-highest number of infections recorded in one day since the start of the pandemic.

On August 23, the Philippines recorded an all-time high 18,332 single-day cases.

Also, the Department of Health said that around 75% of the country’s 4,200 intensive care unit beds for COVID-19 patients are occupied. —LBG, GMA News
