Janine Gutierrez nominated for best actress, ‘Babae at Baril’ gets nods at Gawad Urian

Janine Gutierrez has been nominated best actress for her role on “Babae at Baril” at this year’s Gawad Urian.

Gawad Urian announced the nominees on its Facebook page Thursday.

Apart from her Best Actress nomination, “Babae at Baril” was also nominated in eight other categories including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (JC Santos), Best Director (Rae Red), Best Screenplay (Rae Red), Best Cinematography (Tey Clamor), Best Editing (Ilsa Malsi), Best Production Design (Eero Yves Francisco), and Best Music (Fatima Nerikka Salim and Immanuel Verona).

A total of 24 films earned nods across 12 categories at Gawad Urian.

“Babae at Baril,” a psycho-thriller directed by Rae Red, follows the story of  a department store saleslady who finds a peculiar-looking gun on her doorstep and realizes that she can do whatever she wants.

It is the opening film at this year’s New York Asian Film Festival, which will run from Aug. 29 to Sept. 12.

The film premiered at QCinema International Film Festival last year.

Red also won Best Director at QCinema 2019 while Janine won the festival’s Best Actress award.
