TNT charges past Rain or Shine in come-from-behind OT win

TNT Tropang Giga needed a fourth quarter explosion to force an overtime and eke out an 89-85 victory against Rain or Shine Elasto Painters on Thursday in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

Rain or Shine led by as many as 16 points and headed into the final frame with a 62-51 advantage, but TNT detonated for 27 points in the payoff period to erase the deficit and knot the score to 78-all at the end of regulation.

The Tropang Giga then clamped down on the Elasto Painters in OT, limiting their opponents to only seven points as Poy Erram scored three baskets and Mikey Williams added a trey.

Jayson Castro iced the game with free throws with two seconds left on the clock. Beau Belga attempted a triple as time expired but his shot missed at the buzzer.

Five players scored in double digits for TNT led by Troy Rosario with 19 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks. Williams registered 15 points and six assists, Erram finished with 13, while RR Pogoy and Castro had 12 markers each.

Mike Nieto made 19 points for Rain or Shine in the loss, while Gian Mamuyac had 18. Santi Santillan and Rey Nambatac combined for 33 points.

TNT (4-2) will next face Phoenix Super LPG Fuelmasters on Sunday, while Rain or Shine (1-4) will play the San Miguel Beermen on Wednesday.
