Gerrit Holtmann's late goal helps Azkals down Mongolia in AFC Asian Cup qualifiers

Gerrit Holtmann made sure his presence was felt in his debut for the Philippine Azkals.

In his first game with the Philippine national men's football team on Saturday, Holtmann scored a goal at the 93rd minute mark, which took down host country Mongolia, 1-0, in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.

With Holtmann's goal, the Philippines notched its first win in the third round following a goalless draw last Wednesday. The Azkals now have four points in this round and are on the top of Group B.

The top team of each group at the end of the round will book a ticket to the AFC Asian Cup, along with the five best second placers in the tournament.

The Philippines will continue to solidify its bid for an Asian Cup ticket on Tuesday as they are set to play Palestine.
