Kamaru Usman wants to lure Georges St-Pierre out of retirement

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman is hoping to test himself against the man touted as Greatest of all Time following his latest win.

The 33-year-old defeated fan-favorite Jorge Masvidal via lopsided unanimous decision in the main event of UFC 251 at Fight Island last weekend.

Asked who he wants to fight next, Usman says he wants to share the octagon with former UFC welterweight and middleweight world champion Georges St-Pierre.

“Honestly, I would have to say Georges St-Pierre,” Usman told TMZ Sports.

“Right now we’re tied for the record most consecutive wins in the welterweight division and Georges is a tough guy, Georges is a legend. Georges is a guy who has put his time in and is considered one of the best and that’s where I aim to be,” he added.

“Georges can still do it. He proved it, what, two years ago when he came back, that he can still do it. And I feel that he’s still able to do it. He’s still able to come in and be that opponent where people are unsure.”

St-Pierre retired from mixed martial arts after he defended the UFC welterweight world title against Johnny Hendricks at UFC 167 in November 2013.

He made a comeback four years later and shocked the world when he snatched the UFC middleweight world title from Michael Bisping at UFC 217 via third-round submission.

And if the retired the Canadian ex-champ would oblige, Usman is willing to stake his title against him.

“Georges knows what he’s done with his legacy. He’s cemented his legacy. He’s put in the time, he’s put in the work, and that’s why he sits at the top as one of the best ever,” said Usman.

“So I’d love to test myself. I’m a martial artist just like he was a martial artist and if he still has some fire burning in that oven, let’s test it out. Let’s go out and see if he can still do it.” – JM Siasat/RC, GMA News
