Onic PH admits sweep of BTK in M3 upper bracket finals was unexpected

By BEA MICALLER,GMA News

SINGAPORE—Even Onic Philippines was surprised that its Mobile Legends: Bang Bang M3 World Championship upper bracket finals showdown against BloodThirstyKings (BTK) didn't go longer than it did.

The Filipinos pulled off a stunning 3-0 sweep against the North Americans, who had earlier sent Onic's compatriots Blacklist International to the lower bracket in an upset.

According to team captain Allen “Baloyskie” Baloy, they were confident they could come away with the victory, but not as easy and as fast as they actually did.

After all, BTK was coming off victories against powerhouse clubs, including Blacklist and home bet Evos SG in the upper bracket semifinals.

"Personally, I expected that we could win but we didn't really know at first the capabilities of BTK," Baloyskie said in Filipino during the post-match press conference. "But we're confident we can defeat them."

Gerald "Dlarskie" Trinchera echoed Baloyskie's statement, saying they were certain they would win the match, but a sweep was something they didn't see coming.

"For me, that was really a sure win for us. But I did not expect that we could win via a 3-0 sweep."

The resounding victory saw Onic PH as the first team to book a grand finals seat and it will now await its opponent, which could be either Evos SG, Blacklist, and BTK.

Evos SG and Blacklist will slug it out in the lower bracket semifinal round later at 3 p.m. with the winner facing BTK in the lower bracket's final round.
