MPL PHILIPPINES

Onic asserts mastery over Echo with reverse sweep in Week 8

By JOHN EDISON UBALDO

Onic Philippines leaned on the heroics of Karl Mico "Micophobia" Quitlong in the rubber match to complete a reverse sweep of Echo, 2-1, in the last week of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines Season 9 on Friday.

With the win, Onic has solidified their position as the fourth seed entering the playoffs. Echo, meanwhile, has to win their last match and hope for a TNC loss to take the last ticket to the upper bracket.

In Game 1, Echo opted for a three-fighter set-up while fielding a Helcurt jungler against Onic's three-man tank setup. Onic won the opening salvo with a 4-2 tradeoff during a 2nd minute turtle fight.

But Echo retaliated with a 3-1 takedown in the 5th minute turtle fight then followed it up with another 3-1 wipe during the 9th minute to secure the first lord.

Echo then picked off Kairi "Kairi" Rayosdelsol (Baxia) and Mark Christian "Markyyyyy" Capacio (Wanwan) in the 13th minute to secure the luminous lord and complete the base turret push, 1-0.

Onic flipped the script in Game 2 as they once again took a 4-1 kill lead at the 2nd minute followed by another 3-1 wipe in the 8th minute and cruised to an easy win.

They forced an extension with a dominant 13-4 kill spread in just 14 minutes.

It was a see-saw battle in Game 3 with both teams having their respective highlights but none other was more decisive than Allen "Baloyskie" Baloy's (Grock) Wild Charge setup in the 13th minute that touched off a 4-0 wipe to secure the luminous lord.

It was all Onic from there with the three-time MPL runner-up securing the necessary pickoffs to complete the final base turret push.
