Duterte spends Good Friday in Agaton-hit Leyte, sees landslide damage


President Rodrigo Duterte on Good Friday went to Leyte to look at areas hit by tropical cyclone  Agaton.

Duterte landed at the Ormoc City airport before going on an aerial inspection of Baybay City which was hit by several landslides due to heavy rains brought by the weather disturbance.

He also presided over a situation briefing with officials from different government agencies and local government units to assess the casualties and damage Agaton caused.


So far, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported a total of 137 deaths, 28 missing individuals, and eight people wounded due to Agaton.

The agency said only the reports on seven deaths, six injured, and one missing have been confirmed.

A total of 1,689,436 people or 494,607 families were affected by Agaton in 2,068 barangays in Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Bangsamoro, according to the NDRRMC. —NB, GMA News
