Philippines logs 16,017 COVID-19 cases from September 26-October 2

The Philippines recorded a total of 16,017 fresh COVID-19 infections from September 26 to October 2, 2022, the Department of Health (DOH) said Monday.

Based on its weekly cases bulletin, the DOH said it is 10% lower than the reported 17,891 cases monitored during the previous week from September 19 to September 25, 2022.

The daily case average for the recent week decreased from 2,288 to last week’s 2,556.

Latest data from the DOH also showed 228 deaths. Of the figures, 35 occurred in September 2022, three in July 2022, one in June 2022, four in February 2022, three in January 2022, and 182 in September 2021.

The Health department also said 753 severe and critical cases were admitted to hospitals due to COVID-19 as of October 2, 2022.

Meanwhile, of the 2,515 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 611 or 24.3% were occupied while 26.2% of the non-ICU COVID-19 beds were in use.

Of the new cases recorded in the covered period, there were four individuals tagged as new severe or critical cases.

1,967 new cases reported

The DOH, meanwhile, said 1,967 new cases were monitored in the country on Monday, October 3, increasing the total nationwide caseload to 3,955,758.

According to its latest bulletin, the DOH said the country’s active cases also decreased to 28,111 from Sunday’s 28,872. This is the sixth straight day the Philippines have fewer than 30,000 active infections.

Total recoveries rose to 3,864,605 while the death toll rose by 29 to 63,042.

Metro Manila remains the region with the highest number of new infections in the last 14 days with 13,885. It was followed by Region IV-A with 5,650; Region III with 2,832; Region XI with 1,354 and Region XII with 741.

Bed occupancy in the country remains at low risk with 24.4% or 6,983 occupied 28,609 occupied and 21,626 vacant.

A total of 11,418 individuals in the country were tested for the virus on Sunday, October 2, with 315 testing laboratories submitting their results.

Vaccination updates

Over 73 million individuals or 93.70% of the government’s target population are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to DOH.

Meanwhile, at least 6.8 million senior citizens, or 78.51% of the target A2 population have also received their primary vaccine series.

The DOH said over 19 million individuals have received their booster shots.—LDF, GMA News
