La Mesa Dam 'below overflow' level but increase in water expected

PAGASA on Saturday morning said that the water level at La Mesa Dam is still below its overflow elevation.

"The water level of La Mesa Dam as of 10:00 AM is 79.81 m, which is still below its overflow elevation of 80.15 m," PAGASA said.

But it added that "a further increase in the water level is expected."

"Due to the observed 24-hour rainfall of 137.5 mm and a forecast 24-hour rainfall of above 60 mm, a further increase in the water level is expected," said PAGASA.

"In case the water level reaches the overflow elevation, excess floodwaters from La Mesa Dam will flow directly into the Tullahan River, affecting low-lying areas in Quezon City (Fairview, Forest Hills Subdivision, Quirino Highway, Sta. Quiteria, and San Bartolome), Caloocan City, Valenzuela City (North Expressway and La Huerta Subdivision), Malabon City, and Navotas City," PAGASA warned.

PAGASA said that aside from the outflow from the reservoir, continuous rainfall over the watershed may further increase the river water level.

It advised residents living in the aforementioned areas, especially those residing near the riverbanks to take the necessary precautionary measures. —VAL, GMA News
