DJ-singer Papa Obet draws inspiration from the '80s and '90s for his 'Papa Obet Sessions' EP
Barangay LS Forever radio disc jockey Papa Obet is gearing up for the grand release of his EP under GMA Music next month!
We’ve known him as one of the top disc jocks of Barangay LS Forever, but Papa Obet is a talented singer and composer, too.
And this coming December 2021, DJ Obet will be releasing his brand-new EP under GMA Music titled Papa Obet Sessions.
The GMA internal press got the chance to interview him this Monday afternoon (November 22) to discuss his inspiration for this EP.
Papa Obet told GMANetwork.com, “Itong Spotlight Music Sessions na ‘to they always take it from the live performance.
He continued, “Para sa akin, gusto ko ibalik alam mo ‘yung feels na ‘80s, ‘90s na mga songs na marami pa rin nagmamahal hanggang ngayon na sinasabi ng iba, iba pa rin ang classic. Iba pa rin ‘yung mga singers dati, gusto ko ibalik ‘yung ganoon klase ng tugtugan.”
In addition, the Kapuso radio host wants listeners to know that despite the rise of other genres like hiphop, ballad songs are here to stay.
Obet explained, “Gusto ko maramdaman nila ‘yun at kasi alam mo, emosyonal ang mga Pilipino. ‘Pag nakarinig ng love song talagang masasaktan [o] masisiyahan. Kukurutin ‘yung mga puso nila. So, ‘yun ang gusto ko maramdaman nila na hindi pa namamatay ‘yung ganung type ng music.”
Collaborating with GMA Music was a breeze according to Papa Obet and he considers the team behind the record label as a family.
“Hindi ko maituturing na trabaho parang naglalaro lang ako, gusto mo ‘yung ginagawa mo.
“Napakadali na para sa’yo, kasi ‘yung ginagawa ko pinag-record nila ako, kasi nga quarantine, kasi nga quarantine edition ‘yung Spotlight Music Sessions namin, ako lahat.
“Prepare ako ng videos, lights, recording, editing. Matagal ko na ginagawa ‘yun, sabihin natin halos araw-araw ginagawa ko sa Barangay LS ‘yung editing ganyan, set-up ng ilaw.”
“Tapos kasama ko pa ang GMA Music na matagal ko na rin silang talagang nakasama, hindi ko na mabilang kung ilang taon na, kasi sampung taon na ako sa GMA. Matagal ko na silang kasama talaga, kahit sa mga mall shows, concerts ganyan. Ako ‘yung host nila.
The singer added, “Barkada at pamilya ang turingan namin. Napakagaan, hindi ka makakaramdam ng pressure. Hindi ka makakaramdam ng bigat.”
Catch the grand release of Papa Obet Sessions with its carrier single "Ikaw Lang at Ako," which will be available for download on iTunes and for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and other digital stores worldwide starting Dec 10.
