A 72-year-old woman escaped injury after the vehicle she was driving fell off the edge of an unfinished road near a bank in Dagupan City morning on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.

Arcelia Soberano was on her way to park at the bank along Perez Boulevard around 8 a.m. but she did not notice that the ground by the road had become lower as it was yet to be filled with soil.

Her vehicle then fell off the road.

“Nung diniretso — baaaag! ‘Yun pala, malalim. Kasi kung nilagyan ng barrier ‘yan, nakita ko,” Soberano said.

Though shaken, she was unharmed.

“Siyempre, nanlalamig pa nga ako. Ninenerbiyos ako. Nakita ko ‘yan, ang lalim pala,” she added.

Personnel from the Dagupan Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) were in the area when the incident happened. They responded quickly and helped remove the vehicle from the site.

Teams from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and the City Engineering Office joined the rescue. They used a boom truck to pull out the vehicle, and repairs were completed after more than two hours.

POSO said the land next to the road must be filled to level it with the elevated road. The private lot owner is responsible for that.

“Lahat naman ‘yan nilalagyan ng yellow line. May mga taong walang magawa, kung nadadaanan, inaalis,” POSO Deputy Chief Rexon de Vera said.

POSO will also coordinate with the contractor of the ongoing road project to install more safety signs in the area.
