The local government unit of Mati City, Davao Oriental is expected to significantly cut electricity costs once its solar power project becomes fully operational.
The local government currently spends more than P2 million per month on electricity.
However, it can save more than 60 percent on those expenses once the new solar energy system starts to operate.
Aside from cost savings, the project also aims to reduce the city’s reliance on traditional energy sources.
The solar power facility has a capacity of 513 to 516 kilowatts with a P36 million budget.
The construction began in March 2025 and is nearing completion as of this writing.
