Handcrafted items made by persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) took center stage at the Pasinggatan Festival in Taytay, Palawan, highlighting ongoing rehabilitation and livelihood programs inside jail facilities.
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Taytay District Jail showcased products such as rattan baskets, coconut lampshades, capiz chandeliers, wind chimes, and food items during a trade fair exhibit.
Officials said the display reflects efforts to equip PDLs with skills that can help them rebuild their lives after release.
“These outputs are a reflection of the progress of our rehabilitation initiatives. They show the discipline, creativity, and commitment of persons deprived of liberty as they work toward positive change and eventual reintegration into society,” JO3 Joefrie Anglo, spokesperson of BJMP MIMAROPA, said.
Anglo said the products also carry deeper meaning beyond livelihood.
“These are not merely products — they are proof that change is possible. Each piece carries a story of accountability, renewed purpose, and the determination to start anew,” he added.
The exhibit runs from April 26 to May 4 and aims to promote public support for rehabilitation and reintegration programs while showcasing the skills and creativity of PDLs.
